Lessons 1 and 2 Review

Lesson 1: The Plan of Salvation Review

Objective: Help class understand the key elements of the Plan of Salvation, their purpose on earth, and the role of Jesus Christ in this plan.

1. Introduction

  •  “Where were we before we came to earth? Who is our Heavenly Father?”

We lived with Heavenly Father in heaven before we came to earth.
We are His children, and He loves us very much.

  • Scripture: Romans 8:16-17: "We are children of God and joint-heirs with Christ."

2. Premortal Life

  • In heaven, Heavenly Father had a plan for us to come to earth to gain a body and to learn. He hopes that we will be obedient, so that we can progress and become like Him.
Jesus Christ was chosen to help us return to live with Heavenly Father.
  • Have you felt Heavenly Father’s great love for you? He sent Jesus to be our Savior to because of how much He loves us and how much He wants us to make it back home.
  •  “How does it make you feel knowing you chose to follow Jesus and Heavenly Father’s plan?”
    • Reinforce: We were there and made the choice to follow Heavenly Father.

3. The Fall and Mortal Life

  • Explain: Heavenly Father created the earth as a place for us to live and learn. He sent Adam and Eve to the earth, and because they made choices, we can learn and grow.
  • Activity: Draw two simple paths on the board: one leading to happiness with Jesus and one leading away (symbolizing agency).
  • Ask: “What are some choices we can make that bring us closer to Heavenly Father?”
    • Encourage participation: Share examples like prayer, being kind, reading scriptures.

4. Jesus Christ’s Role

  • Because we make mistakes, Jesus Christ came to help us. He died for us so that we can be forgiven and live with Heavenly Father again.
  • Use a simple object like a blanket to represent how Jesus Christ "covers" our sins and helps us feel safe and loved.
  • Scripture: John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, He gave His only Son."
  •  “How does it feel to know Jesus loves you and wants to help you?”

5. Resurrection and Eternal Life

  • After we die, because of Jesus Christ, we will live again. Our spirits and bodies will be reunited forever in the Resurrection.
  • If we follow Jesus Christ, we can live with Heavenly Father again in the Celestial Kingdom, which is a place of eternal happiness.
  • “What can we do now to be close to Heavenly Father and Jesus?”

6. Conclusion & Testimony

  • Summary: Heavenly Father’s plan is for us to come to earth, make choices, and return to live with Him. Jesus Christ made it possible for us to do this by being our Savior.
  • Testimony: Bear a simple testimony of the Plan of Salvation and Jesus Christ’s love for each of them.
